What’s Fistula:
Fistula in ano is also known as “Bhagander”. It is a infected tube like connection between perianal skin and the anal canal. This develops from anal gland infection. This gland (cryptoglandular infection) becomes infected by different reasons and becomes blocked and hence the pus develops make a route inside the anus whose one opening is around the anus and other outside the anus.
Causes:
Fistulas often develop due to underlying issues such as perianal abscesses, chronic fissures, long-term constipation, or inflammatory conditions like ulcerative colitis.
Symptoms:
Symptoms of a fistula commonly include pus discharge from an opening in the perianal area, persistent anal pain, and swelling near the anus. Many patients also experience recurrent abscesses.
Diagnosis:
- Physical examination
- Digital rectal examination
- MRI/CT
- Sigmoidoscopy/Colonoscopy
What to do:
- Regular exercise
- Regular sleep
- Yogasan
- Avoid constipation
- Maintain personal hygine
What not to do:

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO HEAL FISTULA?
It totally depends on the tract i.e. distance between two openings or length of Kshar Sutra inserted.
This medicated thread usually cut 1cm of tract within 1 week.
CAN FISTULA COME BACK AFTER SURGERY & HOW IS THIS BETTER THAN SURGERY?
It has very low recurrence rate as this is a less invasive, done within tract only. It has lesses complications.
In case of surgery if the internal opening is not clearly identified then it can form a bridge of healing or incomplete healing. but Kshar Sutra is only administered in the tract with both opening clearly identified.
